Ellie Yoo
Welcome to The Good Music Academy!
I’m Ellie Yoo, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a musical family, I was surrounded by the beauty and discipline of music from the early age of 4. My journey started with piano lessons, but it was the violin that truly captured my heart.
After watching my sister practice her violin, I was inspired to pick up the instrument myself. The piano was something that I consistently played at church, but the violin was what I went after. I was a student of Teo Tetel at the Peabody Conservatory and later decided to continue my violin journey at the University of Maryland, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Music Education with violin as my primary instrument. I continued my education with a Master’s in Church Music from Southwestern Seminary continually teaching violin at the Southwestern Music Academy. Through these years of study and performance, I’ve had the privilege of developing both my musical skills and my ability to teach others.
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of performing in diverse settings such as churches, competitions, and even Carnegie Hall. With over 10 years of teaching experience, my primary goal has always been to use music to glorify God, connect with others, and inspire them. I truly believe that music has the power to discipline, uplift, heal, and bring joy to self and others.
As a teacher, I focus on fostering a supportive and creative environment where students of all ages and skill levels can thrive. I understand the challenges of balancing practice with daily life, especially as someone who has moved and adapted many times myself, but I’ve always found that music has a way of grounding and enriching our lives.
Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to refine your skills, my approach is rooted in personalized instruction, patience, and plenty of encouragement. I strive to tailor lessons to each student's unique learning style, ensuring that the process is not only educational but also enjoyable.
I hope to share the joy and satisfaction that comes with making music, just as I’ve experienced over the years. If you’re looking to learn the violin, explore new musical horizons, or simply want to enhance your skills, I’d love to work with you!
